🍍 Lolo Kiko’s Favorite Hawaiian Treats 🍧
At Lolo Kiko, we love sharing a little taste of Hawai‘i — and what better way than through sweet, colorful island treats? Hawai‘i is famous for its delicious snacks and desserts that both kids and grown-ups love. Today, we’re sharing a few of Lolo Kiko’s favorite Hawaiian treats, plus a super easy recipe you can make at home with your keiki (kids)!
🌈 1️⃣ Shave Ice
A cool, colorful treat made by shaving a block of ice and adding bright, fruity syrups on top. You can even add extras like mochi balls or a scoop of ice cream at the bottom!
Fun Fact: Shave ice came to Hawai‘i from Japan and quickly became a local favorite on hot days.
🍩 2️⃣ Malasadas
These warm, fluffy, sugar-dusted doughnuts are a beloved island snack. Portuguese immigrants brought them to Hawai‘i, and now you’ll find malasada stands all over the islands.
Fun Fact: The day before Lent is known as Malasada Day in Hawai‘i — a day to indulge in these sweet treats!
🍍 3️⃣ Fresh Pineapple
Nothing beats a juicy, golden slice of fresh pineapple on a sunny day. It’s sweet, tangy, and makes the perfect healthy snack for keiki.
Fun Fact: The Dole Plantation on O‘ahu has one of the world’s largest garden mazes made from tropical plants.
🍓 Easy Island Treat Recipe: Rainbow Fruit Skewers 🍍🍓
Here’s a simple, healthy treat you can make with your little ones at home!
Ingredients:
Fresh pineapple chunks
Strawberries
Green grapes
Blueberries
Wooden skewers
Directions:
Carefully wash and cut the fruit into bite-sized pieces.
Let your keiki thread the fruit onto the skewers, making a rainbow pattern.
Chill in the fridge or enjoy right away for a colorful, refreshing snack!
Optional: Drizzle with a little honey or a squeeze of lime juice for extra flavor!
🌺 Aloha Tip:
Have your keiki name each color or fruit as they build their skewer — it’s a fun way to practice colors and counting while making a healthy treat!
